Play.ht was acquired and wound down. Here's how to replace it.
Meta acquired PlayAI, the company behind Play.ht, in July 2025, and the consumer service was wound down afterwards — play.ht no longer resolved when we checked in October 2026. If your channel or product relied on its voices, here's how to replace it, and where DreamTuber fits.
Play.ht was a capable voice platform with a large voice library and an API. If you're replacing it for an app or API integration, an API-first provider is the closer fit; DreamTuber is for creators making narrated videos.
Long scripts narrated in one consistent voice.
Clone your own voice from a short sample.
Turn narration into a finished, illustrated video.
In July 2025 Meta confirmed it had acquired PlayAI, the voice startup behind Play.ht, with the team moving to Meta. Reports since then say the consumer product and API were wound down, and when we checked on 13 October 2026 the play.ht domain no longer resolved. If you had voice clones or saved projects there, assume they're gone and plan to rebuild them.
Whichever tools you shortlist, run the same real project through each one — the same script or prompt, the same length — and compare the finished result, the time it took and the cost on the plan you'd actually buy. Free trials and free plans make this cheap, and it beats any comparison table, including this one.
Record a clean sample of your own voice and clone it once; every project can then use it. If you used a Play.ht stock voice, listen through DreamTuber's 28 preset voices across 23 languages for the closest match — and keep it consistent across uploads so returning viewers hear the same narrator. On DreamTuber, narration costs about 114 credits per finished hour (roughly 1.9 credits a minute), from one monthly credit pool that also pays for scripts, images and full videos. Plans start at $20/mo for 159 credits.
DreamTuber isn't the right fit for every Play.htuser. If your videos are short, avatar-led or hand-edited, one of these may suit you better. Prices and limits are from each tool's own pricing page, checked October 2026.

No public API — it's a creator studio. For API integrations, choose an API-first voice provider.
